Charles J. Thomas, Sr.

Charles J. Thomas, Sr. 81, of Deptford, NJ passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the Samaritan Hospice in Voorhees, NJ with his wife by his side. He was the loving husband of Margaret Mary (Brady) Thomas; together they shared 53 years of a wonderful marriage and raised a beautiful family. Born on May 19, 1943, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late James E. and Mary Helen Thomas. Chalie was raised in Southwest Philadelphia and was a long-time parishioner of St. Clement’s Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, coached CYO basketball and softball, and was an assistant girls’ basketball coach for West Catholic High School. He was the maître d’ at Old Original Bookbinder’s in Philadelphia for over 30 years, which led to many stories of meeting celebrities, tales of his eclectic colleagues, and his love for snapper soup. Later, he was employed by Recon Automotive and retired in 2008. Chalie was an avid and enthusiastic Philadelphia Sports fan, a critic of all umpires, referees, and officials, an advocate for girls’ sports, a devout Roman Catholic, praying the rosary daily, and was a private chauffer for Margaret Mary. Above all, he was a doting father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. Chalie is survived by his four loving children, Karen Kibler (Scott) of Bellmawr, NJ, Charles Jr. (Jennifer) of Deptford, NJ, Denise Cassel (James) of Mt. Gretna, PA, and Megan Neville (Donald) of Deptford, NJ; adoring sisters, Johanna Wissert of Hammonton, NJ and Mary Preston of Norwood, PA and his beloved grandchildren, Cori (Andrew), Scottie, Brady, MaryGrace, Gavin, James, and Peyton, and great-grandson, Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Thomas. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 5pm to 7pm in The Chapel at BOUCHER FUNERAL HOME, 1757 Delsea Dr. Deptford, NJ 08096. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024, 11AM at Holy Angels Parish at St. Patrick’s RC Church, 86 Cooper Street. Woodbury, NJ 08096.
