Betty E. Sanders

Ms. Betty Elizabeth Sanders lovingly known as “Bubby”, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Atlas Healthcare in Sewell, New Jersey. She was 86 years of age. Ms. Betty Elizabeth Sanders was born on October 15, 1939, in Florence South Carolina, to her father, Reverend Joseph Daniel Davis, and her mother, Ethel Martha Davis Gaskins. From an early age, she embodied strength, resilience, and determination-qualities that would define her life’s journey. Ms. Betty attended Speight High School in Wilson, North Carolina, where she cultivated a love of learning and the values of perseverance and community. Growing up during challenging times, she often reflected on working long days without pay, using outhouses, and living without modern conveniences like telephones or television. She would always say there was one thing her family never lacked-love, and that love shaped her generous spirit and steadfast heart. In 1956, she met her beloved husband, Link Sanders, after a year of corresponding by letter. Their love blossomed, and he formally asked for her hand in marriage. They were married on August 19, 1957, in Wilson Township, North Carolina. The next day, August 20, 1957, Betty moved to Philadelphia, PA to begin their life together. Their union was blessed with three children: Link Sanders Jr. of Clayton, NJ, Tony Sanders of Fresno, CA, and Kisha Sanders- Zeigler of Westville, NJ who were the pride and joy of her life. In 1963, her husband, Link Sanders, opened L&J Fish and Produce Market, which he owned and operated alongside Betty until his passing. For 39 years, they worked side by side. Through hard work, determination, and partnership, they created a lasting legacy of entrepreneurship and service to their community. In addition to her work with the family business, Ms. Betty also served her community through other roles. She was a Cashier Manager at Wal-Mart in Turnersville, New Jersey, and a School Bus Driver for Franklin Township schools, touching countless lives with her care and dedication. Ms. Betty’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of St. Matthew's Baptist Church, attending every Sunday without fail. She faithfully served as a Choir Member, Usher, and Deaconess, and participated in various committees. She was also active in the cooking ministry and the food pantry ministry, and she taught children in the Awana Bible Study program on Friday nights. Whether lifting her voice in song, preparing meals for those in need, guiding young hearts in faith, or serving in church leadership, Ms. Betty served with humility, dedication, and a willing heart. Ms. Betty was more than a business woman and church member-she was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a woman of steadfast faith. She balanced the demands of work, ministry, and family while nurturing her home with strength and compassion. She found joy in cooking, spending time with family and friends, and tending to her garden. She was always willing to help others, often commuting her friends to doctor’s appointments and driving them to various church functions, never hesitating to lend her car to someone in need. She also enjoyed cheering on her favorite football team, the Philadelphia Eagles, sharing her enthusiasm with those around her, especially her grandson, Raekwon Sanders. She is survived by her three children; Link Sanders Jr., Tony Sanders, and Kisha Sanders-Zeigler, nine grand-children; Lesha Sanders, EJ Sanders, Leon Sanders, Raekwon Sanders, Zaevaune Zeigler, Jayden Rodriguez, Kailyn Sanders, Morgan Sanders and Jonan Sanders. Four great-grand-children; Dakota Sanders, Marlee Sanders, Ahmari Sanders, Allurah Sanders, and her last three remaining siblings: Moses Davis of Darlington, SC, Billie Ruth Johnson of Stamford, CT and Freda Davis of Fort Lauderdale, FL, along with a host of other relatives and friends. She was reunited in eternal rest with her beloved husband, Link Sanders, and fourteen cherished siblings. Though our hearts are heavy, we trust God’s promise. Ms. Betty has finished her earthly journey and entered into eternal peace.
