George A. Cox Sr.

George A. Cox, Sr., 83, of Deptford, New Jersey, was called home to his Lord and Savior on August 28, 2026, following a 20 month battle with cancer. George faced his illness with the same strength and determination that defined so much of his life. Loving father of Genise Ivins (David) of Westville, Michael Cox-Steckley of Colorado, and the late Genelle Cox and George Cox Jr. Beloved son of the late James Cox and Vera Cox (Cashell). Cherished brother of Thomas Cox, Sr. (Helen) of National Park, the late Patricia Spennato (Neil), Jean Caruso (Rick), and Robert Cox, Sr. (Sylvia). Devoted Pop Pop of Sky and Dominic. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. George was born on April 3, 1943 in Camden, NJ and grew up in Gloucester City, NJ where he later graduated from Gloucester High School in 1961. George completed 4 years at Camden County Technical Institute and 1 year at the Philadelphia Wire Technical Institute to prepare for his career as an HVAC engineer that spanned over 25 years. Most of his career focused on HVAC design and installation for pharmaceuticals. His love of design and building inspired him to build his house, 8 - car garage, and Cox’s Heart to Heart flower shop in Deptford. He also designed and built many home additions for friends and family. George spent one year as chairman of the Deptford planning board in the 80s, helping to further develop the town he lived in. George enjoyed classic cars which included racing them at Atco Dragway and working on them in his later years. He also enjoyed collecting Lionel trains, building several model train layouts in his basement, and going to train shows with friends. George began gardening in his later years and grew some of the best tomato and pepper plants. You could always count on him to catch you up to speed on the Phillies as he never missed watching a game with his cats. George enjoyed his Monday and Thursday night dinners and going to Piston diner each month with friends. Most of all George found joy in attending church and classes at Trinity Bible Church and volunteering for all of their events. Spending time with his family, friends, and church family meant the world to him.
