Michael J. Anderson, Jr., USN (RET) “Chief” of Deptford. Age 83. Husband of the late Theresa P. (nee Arruda). Born on July 28, 1932 in Elizabeth, NJ and completed his final mission on February 8, 2016 in his home surrounded by his devoted daughter, Cheryl Santos-Herman and son-in-law, Gregory Herman. He is loved and will be dearly missed by his granddaughter Kylene Yee-Stevens (Jay) along with his dear neighbors Brian & Doreen Wheeler, especially his devoted “Buddy” Joe Bosco and Lisa Grandizio, who was like a daughter to him. Chief served in the US Navy for twenty years as a Master Chief and retired from active duty in 1970, then served ten years in the Fleet Reserve. During service time, he was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, Combat “V” Combat Action Medal, Navy Unit Commander Merit Award and Five Good Conduct Awards. His Navy Service occupations were National Defense, Korean Service, Armed Forces Exp., Vietnam Service, United Nations Service and received the Korean Presidential Unit Citation. Mike was known for his deep knowledge of Military History, honest and true to his convictions and believed in following through on what he set out to achieve. He loved his family, friends, a hard worker, enjoyed farming, reading and dancing. Known for being firm, yet fair, was sensitive to the needs of the less fortunate, was a good listener and communicator and was loved and respected by many. Mike was also a tractor trailer driver and previously worked for Gloucester County. He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors, VFW Post 2174 Westville Grove, Deptford Elks Lodge 2708, American Legion Post 133 Woodbury. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday, February 18, 2016 from 9-11am in The Chapel at BOUCHER FUNERAL HOME, 1757 Delsea Dr., Deptford, NJ 08096. Religious Service 11am in The Chapel at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors at Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
