Rita F. Meduri

Rita F. Meduri (nee Gehlert) on March 13, 2026, former resident of Mantua and Woodbury Heights NJ, with years of fond memories made in Westville NJ. Age 91. Loving wife of the late Pietro/Pete Meduri. Beloved mother of Lysa Leiponis (Robert) of New York, Stephen Meduri of Florida, and stepmother to the late Anthony Meduri. Cherished sister of Klaus Gehlert (Hedy), and Barbara Kavanaugh (late William). Devoted grandmother of Stephen Scully, Daniel Scully and Angelina Meduri. Rita was born in Leipzig, Germany in 1934 and immigrated to the United States in the 1950s, where she met and fell in love with her late husband, Pete. Together they opened Rita's Pizzeria in Westville NJ in the early 1960s. For nearly three decades, Rita greeted everyone who entered the restaurant with love and sincerity. She remembered the details about her customers' families, and always made people feel at home. She extended this same care to her employees. Rita's love for her business was only surpassed by her love for her family. As a Mom and then a MomMom, she was at her happiest when she was able to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Her pride of all their accomplishments was endless. Rita was an avid reader and gardener, and was always willing to talk about movies, politics, and sports. She kept many conversations lively with her knowledge and opinions. Rita loved the beach and sitting in the sun, and many of her fondest memories came from her time at the Jersey shore and Beachcomber Campground. After retiring from day-to-day restaurant life, Rita worked for many years as a bus aide to disabled students in the Gateway and Harrison Twp School Districts. She is remembered fondly by all those who knew her. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 10am to 11am in The Chapel at BOUCHER FUNERAL HOME, 1757 Delsea Drive, Deptford, NJ 08096. Memories will be shared at 11am in the Chapel of the funeral home. Interment Private.
