June 19, 1934 - February 26, 2020

Claire Poole “Nellie” (nee Charlton) on February 26, 2020 of Woodbury Heights. Age 85. Wife of the late Joseph F. Poole. Devoted mother of Valerie Dzindzio (Mark) of Clayton, Robert Clayton (Elizabeth) of Woodbury, Maureen Leo (Dominick) of Clayton, and step-mother of Joseph “Michael” Poole (the late Diane) of Deptford, James Poole of Woodbury and the late Frank Clayton, Jr., Russell Clayton (Theresa) and Kevin Clayton. Beloved sister of Edward Charlton (Theresa) of Collingswood and the late Frances Andrews, Teresa Logan, and Hilda Minderjahn. Loving grandmother of 14 and great-grandmother of 11. Nellie leaves behind many nieces and nephews and her cat, Tabitha. A loving and caring woman, Claire dedicated her life to her family. She was employed by the Camden County Board of Social Services as a Social Worker before her retirement. Claire was heavily involved in politics, was President of CWA LOCAL 1084 Union; was 2nd Vice President of Central Labor Union-AFL CIO, was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1984, 1988, and 1999, served on numerous United Way campaigns; former President of Women of Labor; Chairperson of the Union Organization of Social Services; Woodbury Heights Borough Council Member; Woodbury Heights Democratic Club; former President of the Woodbury Heights Senior Club, and Gloucester County Senior Club. She was also involved in St. Margaret’s Church where she was part of the bereavement committee. Claire adored her children and grandchildren and she even sponsored a child through the Unbound organization. Family meant the world to her. She will be missed deeply by her loved ones. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2020 from 9am to 10:45am at Infant Jesus Parish at St. Margaret’s Church, 3rd & Beech Sts., Woodbury Heights, NJ 08097. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11am in St. Margaret’s Church. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park, Sewell. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 1415 NJ-70 #311, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034 or www.jdrf.org.
