Margaret “Peg” Mendoza on August 18, 2023 of Deptford. Age 103. Beloved wife of the late Richard Mendoza. Loving mother of Peggy Mendoza Principato of Deptford and the late Richard F. Mendoza. Cherished grandmother of Christine Rowan (Brian) of Blackwood, Tracey Mendoza (Jim McGee) of Voorhees, Matt Principato (Shanell) of Deptford and Joe Principato of Deptford. Devoted Great-Grandmother of Hailey Rowan, Hannah Rowan, Olivia McGee, Ian McGee, Laci Principato, Brynlee Principato and Kolten Principato. Peg was born and raised in South Philadelphia and was a spitfire her entire life. She graduated from South Philadelphia High School with aspirations to become an actress. She then met her future husband Bud, married and had 2 children, they moved to New Jersey and never looked back. Peg volunteered as a Scout Leader for her son and daughter then began her working career in Deptford Township. Several years later Peg was appointed The First Executive Director of the Gloucester County Department on Aging She was a leader, innovator and proven advocate for seniors her entire life and after retiring she volunteered well into her 90’s. She was hired by The Gloucester County Times to write a column “The Golden Years” to help bring the Gloucester County Seniors together and through this column the First Senior Citizens Clubs began to pop up throughout the county. Peg implemented the Senior Bus Services in Gloucester County and the Meals on Wheels program to feed any senior who needed a meal. Peg served on many boards including President of The Deptford Golden Age Club, President of the Gloucester County Senior Citizens Organization and Chairperson of the Gloucester County Advisory Board. She was honored numerous times including the Presidential Award from President George Bush, The Senior Star Award from Governor Christie Whitman, and Community Service Medallion from Gloucester County College. In 2018 Peg was awarded the highest honor bestowed on a Deptford Township Citizen, The Legacy Park Award. Although she was very honored and proud of her accomplishments throughout her lifetime, she was completely devoted to her family. She loved her Husband, Children, Grand Children and Great Grand Children more than anything and cherished every moment with them, her Great Grand Children called her Dancin’ Mom Mom. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, August 24, 2023 from 10am to 11am in The Chapel at BOUCHER FUNERAL HOME, 1757 Delsea Drive, Deptford, NJ 08096. Memorial Service 11am in The Chapel of the funeral home. Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro.
